Consolidate
Things you dropped one at a time, over days, under one tag, made into a single card. There are two ways to do it:
- List: notes and links as one checklist. The card is new text, and it keeps a copy of each original, so the originals can go to the trash.
- Bundle: anything (notes, links, pictures, files, recordings) kept together as one card, each item whole. Nothing is copied and nothing goes to the trash.
Doing it
- Filter to a tag (
#lisbon) or search for something. When at least two items are showing, the filter bar offers consolidate…, on the desktop and the phone. From a search, weaker matches aren't included, and Move the originals to the trash starts off, since a search is looser than a tag. The title starts as the tag's name, or what you searched for. - The sheet lists what's showing (your notes on items aren't in it), oldest first, all ticked.
Untick what doesn't belong.
- It opens as a list when a list can take everything, and as a bundle otherwise. Switch with the two buttons at the top.
- What the chosen way can't take is greyed out, with why: "a list takes notes and links: use a bundle", "a bundle can't go in another", "a locked item stays on its own".
- Each row shows its kind, when you saved it and its tags. ticked in it means something in it is already ticked. N notes on it and reminder … (amber) are what it carries.
- Title starts as the tag's name. Clear it for a list with no heading or a bundle called "Untitled bundle".
- The right side shows the card you'll get, as it will look (on the phone, see the card shows it, and back returns to the list). consolidate makes it and opens it.
A list
# Title, then a box per item:- [ ] its words. A note's other lines are carried under its box. A note that was a checklist brings its boxes, ticked as they are now, under its words (the box over them is ticked when they all are), or as boxes of their own when it has no other words. What was ticked is written into the new text as[x].- A link is a box with its title linking to it (
- [ ] [The market](https://…)), or its bare address when it has no title. - Shown as markdown (see Markdown notes). Its footer says markdown · consolidated · ☑ n/t.
- Every tag the items had, each once.
- Move the originals to the trash is on by default. They're kept there 30 days. The sheet says what goes with them (notes on them, reminders) and, in list mode, what a list can't take ("1 can't go in a list (file): they stay where they are").
- Reminders: if the originals go to the trash, the soonest reminder still to ring on one of them moves to the new card. A card holds one reminder, so any others wait in the trash with their originals, and come back if those are taken back. If the originals stay, so do their reminders.
Made from
An opened list card has a made from section, above connected to, with one line per original in the checklist's order: its words, when you saved it, and where it is now:
- open: it's still in your heap;
- in the trash · take back: take it back to open it again;
- deleted for good: its words still show.
Past 12 originals the section starts folded to one line. The history says consolidated from N items.
The card's capture keeps a copy of each original: its words (a link's title and address), when you saved it, and its hash. It syncs and goes in backups with the card's captures, needs no store of its own, and is deleted with the card. Only well-formed copies are shown.
Deleting an original for good doesn't delete its words from the card. They're in the checklist, and in the copy the card keeps. To remove them, delete the list card too.
A bundle
- One card stands for its items. While the bundle is there, they leave the list and the map, and show only inside it. Search still finds them: a hit on an item in a bundle shows the bundle.
- Its list card shows its name, how many items, a row for each of the first four (a picture's own picture, the rest by their kind's icon), then "+N more". Faint layers behind the card say it holds more than one thing. The footer says what's in it: bundle · 3 notes · 2 links · 1 picture.
- Its tags are every item's tags, each once, copied once when it's made. Tags you put on the bundle later stay with the bundle.
- Each item keeps its own tags, notes, reminders and history. A reminder on an item still rings from the item, and the opened bundle shows it in amber on the item's strip.
- An item is in one bundle at most. A bundle can't go in another.
Opened
Each item whole, in the bundle's order, under a strip with its kind, when you saved it, notes or a reminder on it (amber), and:
- open: its own card, with its notes, reminder, history and connections. That card says in the bundle "Lisbon" · take out;
- take out: back in your heap, as it was.
The history says bundled N items, took out "…"; an item's says put in the bundle "…" and taken out of the bundle "…".
Take apart
take apart (in the opened bundle's header) puts the bundle in the trash. Its items show again as they were. The trash keeps it 30 days: take it back and they're bundled again. Putting the bundle in the trash any other way does the same.
- Taking out its last item puts the bundle in the trash too: a bundle of nothing isn't a card.
- Deleting an item for good takes it out of the bundle. When that was its last item, the bundle goes to the trash.
- Deleting the bundle for good leaves its items as they were.
Not yet
- Adding to a list or a bundle that's already made.
